How Can We Help?

Rotational Head Acceleration

You are here:

Overview

A seminal paper in the field of head injury biomechanics demonstrated that rotational motion of the head was the main cause of strain to the brain [1]. Though in the real world it is nearly impossible for the human head to experience purely rotational motion without linear motion, rotational acceleration is used as a correlative metric to understand brain deformation.

Instrumentation Summary

Sensor TypeNodout
Sensor IDDefault: Node ID 1990002
Local Coordinate SystemDefault: LCS ID 1000002
Signal TypeRotational Acceleration Time History
Filter FrequencyDefault: 1000 Hz

Calculation Methods

1. Extract X, Y, and Z rotational head acceleration traces from the sensor node.  Default node ID can be modified in Human Body Model Settings.

2. Filter each trace individually.  Note: default filter frequency can be modified in Calculation Settings.
